HOUSE BILL NO. 2638 Offered January 10, 2019 A BILL to require the Department of Education to establish a Teacher Advisory Committee. ---------- Patrons-- VanValkenburg and Hurst ---------- Committee Referral Pending ----------

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. §1. The Department of Education (the Department) shall establish and appoint members to a Teacher Advisory Committee (the committee). Each member of the committee shall be a public elementary or secondary school teacher or administrator in the Commonwealth. In appointing members to the committee, the Department shall prioritize geographical diversity and a variety of outcomes on the school quality indicators. The committee shall meet at least once a year in either July or August and at such times as the Department directs to make recommendations to the Department for the improvement of regulations, guidance, and implementation procedures that impact the classroom.
