HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 262
Commending Malcolm Moses Brogdon.

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, March 11, 2016

WHEREAS, Malcolm Moses Brogdon, a member of the University of Virginia men's basketball team, was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year in 2016; and

WHEREAS, Malcolm Brogdon became the first player to receive both awards in the same year since the Defensive Player of the Year award was created in 2005; he was also named to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) first team for the third consecutive year; and

WHEREAS, Malcolm Brogdon was named a First-Team All-American by the Sporting News, an honor last bestowed on a member of the University of Virginia men's basketball team in 1983; and

WHEREAS, during the 2015 - 2016 regular season, Malcolm Brogdon led the University of Virginia Cavaliers to a 24 - 6 record, with an average of 18.4 points per game and an average of 19.9 points in conference games, making him the fourth-highest scorer in the ACC; and

WHEREAS, Malcolm Brogdon recorded a season-high 28 points three times during the season, finished 15 games with 20 or more points, and finished 29 consecutive games as a double digit scorer; and

WHEREAS, Malcolm Brogdon has led the University of Virginia Cavaliers in scoring for three consecutive years and helped the team achieve at least 12 ACC wins per season for a total of 45 ACC wins, the second-most league wins in that period; and

WHEREAS, a native of Atlanta, Georgia, Malcolm Brogdon played basketball at Greater Atlanta Christian School before matriculating to the University of Virginia; he has earned numerous other accolades over the course of his college career and was named as a finalist for the John R. Wooden award, which is presented to the nation's top player; and

WHEREAS, Malcolm Brogdon, as a student pursuing a master's degree in public policy in the Frank Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy and a resident selected to live on the Range, has contributed to the academic and cultural life of the University of Virginia, in addition to his athletic contributions; and

WHEREAS, Malcolm Brogdon and the second-seed University of Virginia Cavaliers will compete in the ACC Tournament in March 2016; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Malcolm Moses Brogdon hereby be commended on being named the Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Malcolm Moses Brogdon as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for his exceptional athletic achievements and best wishes for the future.
