HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 523
Commending the John Marshall High School boys' basketball team.

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, April 3, 2013

WHEREAS, the John Marshall High School boys' basketball team, one of the Virginia High School League's Group AAA powerhouses, had an outstanding 2012 - 2013 season in which it demonstrated its talent and team work and ended its season with an impressive 26 - 6 record; and

WHEREAS, the John Marshall High School boys' basketball team dominated the Colonial District season and took home the Colonial District championship title after soundly defeating its opponents in tournament play; and

WHEREAS, the John Marshall High School Justices then advanced to Central Region tournament play, enjoying great success and taking home Central Region runner-up honors after a closely played championship game; and

WHEREAS, the John Marshall High School boys' basketball team continued to showcase its skill during state championship play, defeating Great Bridge High School (66 - 55) and Wakefield High School (66 - 46) before meeting Henrico High School in the state championship final; and

WHEREAS, the John Marshall High School Justices were led by seniors Brian White and Gerard Dean-McBride during the historic game, which brought together for the first time two Central Region teams in the state championship final; and

WHEREAS, Brian White, the Colonial District Player of the Year, contributed 12 points while Gerard Dean-McBride scored 11 points as they capped their illustrious season and high school basketball careers in front of their enthusiastic and proud fans; and

WHEREAS, all of the John Marshall High School boys' basketball team members made significant contributions to the success of the team throughout the season and tournament play; and

WHEREAS, the incredible season of the John Marshall High School boys' basketball team is a tribute to the hard work of the entire team, the leadership of head coach Ty White and his staff, and the support of students, parents, school administrators, and fans; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the John Marshall High School boys' basketball team hereby be commended on a remarkable 2012 - 2013 season; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Ty White, head coach of the John Marshall High School boys' basketball team, as an expression of the House of Delegates' congratulations and admiration for the team's talent and dedication.
