WHEREAS, Alan W. Grantham, M.D., a respected surgeon and a beloved husband, father, and grandfather in Abingdon, died on April 7, 2015; and

WHEREAS, a native of Illinois, Alan Grantham graduated from Evanston Township High School and joined many of the other young men of his generation in service to his country during World War II as a member of the United States Navy; and

WHEREAS, after his honorable discharge, Alan Grantham completed his education with a bachelor's degree from Kenyon College and a medical degree from Northwestern University; and

WHEREAS, Alan Grantham completed an internship and a residency in general surgery, then relocated to Abingdon, where he practiced general surgery until his well-earned retirement in 1991; and

WHEREAS, Alan Grantham will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his wife, Mary; children, Christopher, Jeremy, Judith, and Sarah, and their families; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of Alan W. Grantham, M.D., a respected medical professional and devoted family man in Abingdon; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Alan W. Grantham, M.D., as an expression of the House of Delegates' respect for his memory.
