HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 551
Commending Mount Olive Baptist Church.

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, August 17, 2015

WHEREAS, for 100 years, Mount Olive Baptist Church in Woodbridge has provided spiritual leadership, opportunities for fellowship, and joyful worship services in the Baptist tradition, as well as valuable outreach to the community; and

WHEREAS, Mount Olive Baptist Church traces its deepest roots to the early 20th century, when members of Neabsco Baptist Church joined members of Ebenezer Baptist Church to form the Agnewville Mission Sunday School; and

WHEREAS, with the support of Neabsco Baptist Church, Agnewville Mission Sunday School grew to become Mount Olive Baptist Church, which was officially founded on October 17, 1915; and

WHEREAS, Mount Olive Baptist Church has benefited from the able leadership of six pastors—William Davis, William Tyler, George W. Pratt, Edward W. Burrell, Frederick L. Ray, and Clyde W. Ellis, Jr.—each of whom has inspired other young spiritual leaders to carry on the church's mission; and

WHEREAS, the Mount Olive Baptist Church building has served the community from the same location on Telegraph Road throughout its 100-year history; the church also hosts services at Freedom High School to better serve the growing congregation; and

WHEREAS, Mount Olive Baptist Church will commemorate its 100th anniversary with a special celebration at Foxchase Manor in Manassas on October 17, 2015; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Mount Olive Baptist Church hereby be commended on the occasion of its 100th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Reverend Clyde W. Ellis, Jr., pastor of Mount Olive Baptist Church, as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the church's service to the community.
