WHEREAS, John C. Evans will retire as chief of police of the Manassas Park Police Department in 2018, after more than three decades of outstanding service to the residents of Manassas Park and the region; and
WHEREAS, a native of Arlington, John Evans honorably served his country as a member of the United States Air Force, then began his career in law enforcement with the Fairfax County Sheriff's Office in 1985; and
WHEREAS, John Evans joined the Manassas Park Police Department as a patrol officer in August 1986 and served as a shift supervisor, community services lieutenant, accreditation manager, patrol commander, and deputy chief; he was appointed as chief of police in 2002; and
WHEREAS, as chief, John Evans ably led the department and worked to ensure that officers received the best possible training and equipment to help them better serve and protect the members of the public; since 2003, the department has been consistently recognized by the Virginia Law Enforcement Professional Standards Commission as an effective, efficient, and well-managed agency; and
WHEREAS, among his many accomplishments, John Evans also oversaw the design, construction, and opening of a new state-of-the-art facility for the department; and
WHEREAS, outside of the department, John Evans has volunteered his leadership as a board member of the Northern Virginia Criminal Justice Training Academy and a member of the Community Criminal Justice Services Board for the 31st Judicial District of Virginia; and
WHEREAS, John Evans is an exemplar of the selfless commitment to community safety and dedication to duty demonstrated by law-enforcement officers throughout the Commonwealth; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That John C. Evans hereby be commended for his exceptional leadership of the Manassas Park Police Department on the occasion of his retirement as chief of police; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to John C. Evans as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for his service and best wishes for a happy retirement.
