WHEREAS, Billie Jean Wheeler Reynolds, an educator, businesswoman, and former Mayor of Chatham, died on April 23, 2018; and
WHEREAS, a native of Ewing, Billie Reynolds earned a bachelor's degree from Lincoln Memorial University and conducted graduate studies at the University of Tennessee; and
WHEREAS, after completing her education, Billie Reynolds relocated to Gretna, where she taught physical education and coached basketball at Gretna High School; during this time, she met the love of her life, the late Dr. Randall Reynolds, who went on to serve the Commonwealth as a member of the Virginia House of Delegates for nine terms; and
WHEREAS, Billie Reynolds was also a successful entrepreneur, who founded Piedmont Finance in 1972 and helped the company grow to three offices; she was highly admired in her field and served as president of a state financial services association; and
WHEREAS, desirous to be of further service to the community, Billie Reynolds ran for and was elected as Mayor of Chatham; and
WHEREAS, Billie Reynolds was a passionate advocate for education throughout her life; she was a co-founder of Woodlawn Academy and volunteered her time and leadership on the boards of trustees of Woodlawn Academy and Chatham Hall; and
WHEREAS, predeceased by her husband, Randall, Billie Reynolds will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by her daughters, Elizabeth, Mary, and Jean, and their families, and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of Billie Jean Wheeler Reynolds, who made countless contributions to the Pittsylvania County community; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Billie Jean Wheeler Reynolds as an expression of the House of Delegates' respect for her memory.
