SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 462
Celebrating the life of Nancy Smith Bradshaw.

WHEREAS, Nancy Smith Bradshaw, a historian and retired educator from Norge, died on October 4, 2010; and

WHEREAS, after graduating from Toano High School in 1940, Nancy Bradshaw received her bachelor's degree from Madison College in 1944 and her master's degree in education from The College of William and Mary in 1967; and

WHEREAS, Nancy Bradshaw dedicated her professional life to teaching students at Courtland High School, at Toano High School, and in the Williamsburg-James City County Public School System until her retirement in 1988; and

WHEREAS, following her retirement, Nancy Bradshaw continued to assist at the libraries of Norge Elementary School and Lafayette High School and at Child Development Resources; and

WHEREAS, Nancy Bradshaw played an active and vital role in community life, volunteering with the James City County Fair Committee and the James City County Historical Commission; and

WHEREAS, expressive and knowledgeable, Nancy Bradshaw turned her creative energies to coauthoring Velkommen til Norge, A Pictorial History of Norge, Virginia with Frances Hamilton and editing Tales from Oral Histories of James City County; and

WHEREAS, Nancy Bradshaw was appointed by Governor Warner in 2004 to serve on the Board of Trustees of the Chippokes Plantation Farm Foundation; and

WHEREAS, for more than 75 years, Nancy Bradshaw remained an appreciated contributing member of Olive Branch Christian Church, where she served in numerous positions, sang in the choir, and was recognized at the 2010 Christian Women's Fellowship Quadrennial Assembly in Blackstone as an Honored Church Educator; and

WHEREAS, predeceased by her son, Adolphus, and her husband of over 62 years, Adolphus, Nancy Bradshaw will be fondly remembered by her six children, Anderson, Richard, Lawrence, Nancy, Philip, and Russell; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild; by her many friends; and by the many students whose education she shaped; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Nancy Smith Bradshaw, historian and retired educator; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Nancy Smith Bradshaw as an expression of the General Assembly's respect for her memory.
