SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 5003
Celebrating the life of Virginia State Police Master Trooper Junius Alvin Walker.

WHEREAS, Master Trooper Junius Alvin Walker, a native son, graduated from James Solomon Russell High School in Lawrenceville; and

WHEREAS, Master Trooper Junius Alvin Walker proudly served his nation as a member of the United States Army Reserves from July 1969 to July 1975, where he was assigned to Fort Dix in New Jersey; and

WHEREAS, Master Trooper Junius Alvin Walker joined the Virginia State Police on March 1, 1973, and upon graduation from the Virginia State Police Academy, he was assigned to Prince William County in the Culpeper Division; and

WHEREAS, during his tenure with the Department, Master Trooper Junius Alvin Walker served as a Special Agent assigned to narcotics investigations, and in 1986, he was relocated to the Richmond Division and assigned to Dinwiddie County as a Trooper; and

WHEREAS, Master Trooper Junius Alvin Walker, while trying to aid a disabled motorist on Interstate 85 in Dinwiddie County on March 7, 2013, was shot and mortally wounded by the motorist; and

WHEREAS, Master Trooper Junius Alvin Walker was known for his aggressive enforcement of Virginia's traffic laws and for his compassion for those in need; and

WHEREAS, during his 35 years of service to the Virginia State Police, Master Trooper Junius Alvin Walker responded to the call to aid in providing public safety during numerous coalfield and shipyard strikes, incidents of civil unrest, and prison riots; and

WHEREAS, Master Trooper Junius Alvin Walker, a man of great character and integrity and an incredible public servant, demonstrated tremendous commitment to serving and protecting the citizens of the Commonwealth of Virginia through his capacity as one of "Virginia's Finest"; and

WHEREAS, a personable, highly-respected, and honored resident of Dinwiddie and Brunswick Counties, Master Trooper Junius Alvin Walker will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his mother, Mary; wife, Betty; children, Clarissa, Vera, and Derrick and their families; his beloved grandchildren; seven siblings; and numerous other family members, friends, State Police colleagues, and neighbors; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Master Trooper Junius Alvin Walker, a revered public safety professional; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Master Trooper Junius Alvin Walker as an expression of the General Assembly's respect for his memory and years of service to the Commonwealth.
