WHEREAS, Hollin Hall Village, a tight-knit community in Fairfax County, celebrates its 75th anniversary in 2018; and

WHEREAS, Hollin Hall Village, built on land formerly owned by founding father George Mason, traces its roots to 1943 when planning for the community began; construction commenced in 1948 and residents began moving in in 1950; and

WHEREAS, Hollin Hall Village is named after the historic home of Hollin Hall, which was owned by George Mason's third son, Thomas Mason; it was destroyed by fire in 1827, rebuilt in 1919, and still stands today; and

WHEREAS, Hollin Hall Village comprises approximately 650 single-family homes and has been home to thousands of residents since its founding; many families have remained in Hollin Hall Village for multiple generations; and

WHEREAS, Hollin Hall Village also contains two shopping centers with community staples, specialty stores, the Hollin Hall Senior Center, and the Mount Vernon Park Swim and Tennis Association; and

WHEREAS, a highly walkable community with access to necessities and amenities such as health care, recreation, education, religious establishments, and entertainment, Hollin Hall Village also has easy access to 50-acre Paul Spring Park and Kirk Park, which cover the community's entire western border; and

WHEREAS, Hollin Hall Village was originally served by Hollin Hall Elementary School, which closed in 1980 and was converted into the Hollin Hall Senior Center; the former school has also housed A Child's Place, a preschool and after school care program, for over 25 years and is home to a baseball facility, which serves as the home field to many neighborhood children and teams; and

WHEREAS, throughout its history, Hollin Hall Village has remained involved with the issues affecting the future of the Mount Vernon District, while upholding and preserving the neighborhood's pleasant small-town environment; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That Hollin Hall Village hereby be commended on the occasion of its 75th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Hollin Hall Village as an expression of the Senate of Virginia's admiration for this unique community's many contributions to Fairfax County.
