HOUSE RESOLUTION 2012

 

 

 

A RESOLUTION

 

honoring the city of chandler on its centennial anniversary.

Whereas, the City of Chandler celebrates the one hundredth anniversary of its founding on May 17, 2012; and

Whereas, Chandler was founded by Dr. Alexander John Chandler, Arizona's first territorial veterinarian.  Chandler's first settlers, who represented many cultures, were tough and hardworking people who established their homes and businesses and weathered the harsh seasonal elements; and

Whereas, the Town of Chandler was chartered in 1920 and gained status as a city on May 24, 1954; and

Whereas, Chandler has enjoyed tremendous success and rapid growth, attracting major employers and providing businesses with an excellent venue for economic development.  The city's current population is approximately 240,000; and

Whereas, Chandler was named as the 2010 All-America City by the National Civic League and is a five-time winner of the 100 Best Places for Young People award as presented by America's Promise; and

Whereas, the City of Chandler will celebrate its one hundredth anniversary with several community events and commemorative activities, including hosting a Birthday Party at Chandler City Hall, establishing a new time capsule that will be unveiled in fifty years, promoting a 100-Hour Volunteer challenge and Centennial Scholarship contest and commissioning a new history book entitled Images of America: Chandler.

Therefore

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of Arizona:

1.  That the Members of the House of Representatives honor the City of Chandler on its One Hundredth Anniversary. 

2.  That the Secretary of State of the State of Arizona transmit a copy of this resolution to the Mayor of the City of Chandler.
