An Act

 

amending title 41, chapter 1, article 4, Arizona Revised Statutes, by adding section 41-181; appropriating monies; relating to the state treasurer.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Arizona:

Section 1. Title 41, chapter 1, article 4, Arizona Revised Statutes, is amended by adding section 41-181, to read:

START_STATUTE41-181. Public safety investment fund

The public safety investment fund is established consisting of legislative appropriations.  Monies in the fund are subject to legislative appropriation. The State treasurer shall administer the fund and shall distribute monies from the fund to city and town police departments in this state for equipment and training. The state treasurer may not distribute more than $250,000 each fiscal year to a city or town police department and shall prioritize the distribution of monies to cities and towns with a population of less than one hundred fifty thousand persons. Sec. 2. Appropriation; public safety investment fund; exemption

A. The sum of $45,000,000 is appropriated from the state general fund in fiscal year 2023-2024 to the public safety investment fund established by section 41-181, Arizona Revised Statutes, as added by this act, and is appropriated from the public safety investment fund to the state treasurer. The state treasurer may hire one additional full-time equivalent position and may spend not more than $250,000 of the monies appropriated by this subsection to administer the public safety investment fund.

B. The appropriation made in subsection A of this section is exempt from the provisions of section 35-190, Arizona Revised Statutes, relating to lapsing of appropriations.
