AN ACT

 

Making an appropriation to the department of education for intervention and remedial reading strategies.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Arizona:

Section 1.  Appropriation; intervention and remedial reading strategies

A.  In addition to any other monies appropriated in fiscal year 2013‑2014 for this purpose, the sum of $40,000,000 is appropriated from the state general fund in fiscal year 2013-2014 to the department of education for the purpose of providing funding for intervention and remedial reading strategies developed by the state board of education for pupils in kindergarten programs and grades one, two and three pursuant to section 15‑701, Arizona Revised Statutes.

B.  The monies appropriated pursuant to subsection A of this section shall be distributed to school districts and charter schools based on the population of pupils in the school district or charter school in grade three who are approaching or falling far below the third grade reading level on the Arizona instrument to measure standards test or a successor test approved by the state board of education.
