Relative to International Day of Peace.


LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST


HR 69, as introduced, Eduardo Garcia.

WHEREAS, In 1981, the United Nations General Assembly, by unanimous vote, adopted Resolution 36/67 establishing the International Day of Peace; and
WHEREAS, Resolution 36/67 states in part “that it would be appropriate to devote a specific time to concentrate the efforts of the United Nations and its Member States, as well as of the whole of mankind, to promoting the ideals of peace and to giving positive evidence of their commitment to peace in all viable ways”; and
WHEREAS, International Day of Peace provides an opportunity for individuals, organizations, and nations to create practical acts of peace on a shared date; and
WHEREAS, International Day of Peace should be devoted to commemorating and strengthening the ideals of peace both within and among all nations and peoples; and
WHEREAS, International Day of Peace is also a day of ceasefire, whether personal or political; and
WHEREAS, International Day of Peace is an opportunity to make peace in personal relationships and impact the larger conflicts of our time; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the Assembly of the State of California, That the Assembly hereby proclaims September 21, 2021, as the International Day of Peace; and be it further
Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly transmit copies of this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
