   An act relating to disaster relief.


	LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST


   SB 164, as introduced, Cox. Taxation: disaster relief.
   Existing law provides for various forms of relief and assistance
to individuals, businesses, and local agencies, including tax relief,
in the event of a disaster or other emergency.
   This bill would express the intent of the Legislature to enact
legislation to simplify the procedures for individuals, businesses,
and local agencies to obtain assistance and relief, as well as
appropriate relief and suspension from their tax burdens, in the
event of a disaster or other emergency.
   Vote: majority. Appropriation: no. Fiscal committee: no.
State-mandated local program: no.


THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

  SECTION 1.  It is the intent of the Legislature to enact
legislation to simplify the procedures for individuals, businesses,
and local agencies to obtain assistance and relief, as well as
appropriate relief and suspension from their tax burdens, in the
event of a disaster or other emergency.
