AN ACT CONCERNING SCHOOL READINESS PROGRAM SLOTS FOR CHILDREN LIVING BELOW THE POVERTY LEVEL.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

That chapter 164 of the general statutes be amended to provide that all children whose family income does not exceed two hundred per cent of the federal poverty level based on family size be eligible to attend and a slot be available in a school readiness program pursuant to section 10-16p of the general statutes. It is further proposed that funding to the Department of Education be increased for school readiness for the costs associated with such children's attendance in such school readiness programs.

Statement of Purpose:

To increase the number of children who are prepared for kindergarten by allowing poor children to attend prekindergarten programs for free.
