AN ACT CONCERNING GRANTS IN LIEU OF TAXES ON LAND TAKEN INTO TRUST FOR THE MASHANTUCKET PEQUOT TRIBAL NATION AND THE MOHEGAN TRIBE.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:
That section 12-19a of the general statutes be amended to (1) change the date after which land taken into trust for the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation is eligible for a state grant in lieu of taxes from on or after June 8, 1999, to some earlier date, and that such land be valued annually for purposes of such state grant in lieu of taxes, and (2) add as land eligible for state grants in lieu of taxes any land taken into trust for the Mohegan Tribe, and that such land be valued annually for purposes of such state grant in lieu of taxes.
Statement of Purpose:
To compensate towns more fairly for land declared exempt from local property taxes because it has been taken into trust for the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation and the Mohegan Tribe.
