AN ACT CONCERNING ENHANCED OVERSIGHT OF GUARDIANS AD LITEM AND ATTORNEYS FOR MINOR CHILDREN BY THE OFFICE OF THE CHIEF PUBLIC DEFENDER.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

That section 51-296 of the general statutes be amended to provide that the office of Chief Public Defender shall assume oversight responsibilities of all guardians ad litem and attorneys for the minor children appointed in family relations matters and proceedings before the superior court for juvenile matters. Such oversight responsibilities shall include, but not be limited to, the establishment of a fee structure and review of all complaints alleging a violation of the fee structure.

Statement of Purpose:

To enhance oversight of guardians ad litem and attorneys for the minor children who are appointed to represent children in family relations matters and proceedings before the superior court for juvenile matters.
