AN ACT CONCERNING THE PROVISION OF SCHOOL TRANSPORTATION SERVICES BY REGIONAL EDUCATIONAL SERVICE CENTERS AND WRITTEN WAIVERS OF SCHOOL TRANSPORTATION SERVICES BY PARENTS.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

That subsection (a) of section 10-66c of the general statutes be amended to permit a regional educational service center to provide school transportation services to students only in cases where member boards of education request competitive bids and such boards do not receive any responses from responsible qualified bidders; and that chapter 172 of the general statutes be amended to permit the parent or guardian of a student to submit a written waiver of school transportation services for the school year to the local or regional board of education for such student.

Statement of Purpose:

To reduce school transportation costs and provide fiscal relief to municipalities by limiting when regional educational service centers can provide school transportation services and allowing parents of students to submit waivers of school transportation services.
