AN ACT CONCERNING PRESSURE REDISTRIBUTION MATTRESSES AND PATIENT CARE IN NURSING HOME FACILITIES.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

Section 1. Section 19a-521b of the general statutes is repealed and the following is substituted in lieu thereof (Effective October 1, 2012):

(a) In each licensed chronic and convalescent nursing home, chronic disease hospital associated with a chronic and convalescent nursing home, rest home with nursing supervision and residential care home, at least a three-foot clearance shall be provided at the sides and the foot of each bed.

(b) On and after January 1, 2013, whenever a licensed chronic and convalescent nursing home, chronic disease hospital associated with a chronic and convalescent nursing home or rest home with nursing supervision replaces a mattress, the replacement mattress shall be a pressure-redistribution mattress that is designed to help prevent pressure ulcers. Not later than October 1, 2015, each such facility shall replace all mattresses used in the facility with pressure-redistribution mattresses.

This act shall take effect as follows and shall amend the following sections:
