January Session, 2011

LCO No. 1960

Referred to Committee on Environment

Introduced by:

REP. ROJAS, 9th Dist.

AN ACT CONCERNING THE SPEED OF VESSELS THAT TRAVEL ON THE RIVERS OF THE STATE.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

That section 15-16 of the general statutes be amended to provide that vessels less than twenty-two feet in hull length, wholly or partially propelled by power, may travel at more than slow, no wake speeds or twenty miles per hour on weekdays and thirty miles per hour on weekends when approaching, passing and being within seventy-five feet of any wharf, pier or dock in the city of Hartford between the railroad bridge north of Bulkeley Bridge over the Connecticut River and the southern limits of Hartford. Also, to redefine the term "pier" to exclude bridge abutments that are in a waterway.

Statement of Purpose:

To create consistency between the laws and regulations that exist for vessels that travel on lakes in this state and vessels that travel on the rivers of this state.
