AN ACT INCREASING THE MAXIMUM SURCHARGE FOR ENHANCED 9-1-1 SERVICE.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

That subsection (a) of section 16-256g of the general statutes be amended to increase from fifty cents to seventy-five cents the maximum monthly fee that the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority may require providers of local telephone service, commercial mobile radio service, voice over Internet protocol service and prepaid wireless telephone service to assess their subscribers to fund the development and administration of the enhanced emergency 9-1-1 program.

Statement of Purpose:

To provide adequate funds to support the state's emergency 9-1-1 system and overhaul the outdated core system so that it will accept digital communications.
