AN ACT ESTABLISHING THE OFFICE OF INSPECTOR GENERAL.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

That the general statutes be amended to (1) establish the Office of Inspector General within the office of the Auditors of Public Accounts that shall be responsible for the detection, prevention and investigation of fraud, waste and abuse in the management of state government, state employees and the use of state property in addition to the investigation of whistleblower complaints and representation of whistleblowers in any action against the state, and (2) transfer the staff and resources of the Attorney General's Office that are currently used to investigate whistleblower complaints and allegations of corruption, mismanagement or the waste or abuse of state resources to such office.

Statement of Purpose:

To create the Office of Inspector General in order to reduce waste, fraud and abuse in state government and improve efficiency in the management of state resources.
