A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT


To amend an Act establishing the Municipal Court of Columbus, Georgia, approved August 12, 1915 (Ga. L. 1915, p. 63), as amended, particularly by an Act approved May 30, 2003 (Ga. L. 2003, p. 3686), so as to change the compensation of the clerk and marshal of said court; to provide an effective date; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other purposes.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:

SECTION 1.
An Act establishing the Municipal Court of Columbus, Georgia, approved August 12, 1915 (Ga. L. 1915, p. 63), as amended, particularly by an Act approved May 30, 2003 (Ga. L. 2003, p. 3686), is amended by revising Sections 11 and 12 as follows:

"SECTION 11.
(a) Effective upon the current term of office, the salary of the clerk of said court shall be the higher of $68,217.79 or 70 percent of the amount of the salary of the Sheriff of Muscogee County, as is now or hereafter established pursuant to general law. The salary of the clerk of said court shall be paid in equal monthly installments from the funds of Columbus, Georgia.
(b) Based upon the terms of office served by the clerk of said court, longevity and cost of living increases shall be added to the salary of the clerk of said court under the same provisions and in the same manner as provided for longevity and cost of living increases for sheriffs pursuant to general law.

SECTION 12.

(a) Effective upon the current term of office, the salary of the marshal of said court shall be the higher of $68,217.79 or 70 percent of the amount of the salary of the Sheriff of Muscogee County, as is now or hereafter established pursuant to general law. The salary of the marshal of said court shall be paid in equal monthly installments from the funds of Columbus, Georgia.
(b) Based upon the terms of office served by the marshal of said court, longevity and cost of living increases shall be added to the salary of the marshal of said court under the same provisions and in the same manner as provided for longevity and cost of living increases for sheriffs pursuant to general law."

SECTION 2.
This Act shall become effective upon its approval by the Governor or upon its becoming law without such approval.

SECTION 3.
All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are repealed.
