A RESOLUTION


Recognizing January 28, 2010, as North Georgia College and State University Day at the state capitol; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, North Georgia College and State University was founded in 1873, and stands as this state's second oldest public institution of higher education; and

WHEREAS, designated by state legislation as the Military College of Georgia, North Georgia College and State University is also recognized by the University System of Georgia Board of Regents as a state leadership institution for civilian and military students; and

WHEREAS, located in Dahlonega, Georgia, North Georgia College and State University is one of only six senior military colleges in the nation, standing proudly with the ranks of the Citadel, Norwich University, Texas A&M University, Virginia Military Institute, and Virginia Tech; and

WHEREAS, the university's Corps of Cadets has a long tradition of excellence, and in 2009, North Georgia College and State University was the top-performing senior military college participating in the U.S. Army's Leadership Development Assessment Course; and

WHEREAS, on January 28, 2010, students, alumni, and faculty of North Georgia College and State University will gather at the capitol to celebrate this university's rich history and tradition, which will culminate with a performance from the North Georgia College and State University Golden Eagle Band.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize and observe January 28, 2010, as North Georgia College and State University Day at the state capitol.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to North Georgia College and State University.
