A RESOLUTION


Honoring the life and memory of Mrs. Adelaide Burnett; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the State of Georgia has lost one of its finest and most distinguished citizens with the passing of Mrs. Adelaide Burnett on May 21, 2009; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Burnett was born in Warrenton, Georgia, on July 22, 1931, the beloved daughter of Mrs. Ruby Cody Brooks and the late Mr. Charles L. Burnett; and

WHEREAS, a woman of deep and abiding faith, Mrs. Burnett was an active member of Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Burnett was educated in the Warren County School System and was a talented seamstress whose warm smile uplifted the lives of everyone she encountered; and

WHEREAS, she was the proud mother of nine remarkable children: Diane, Renea, Garry, Angie, Phyllis, Ira, Durrane, Kim, and Darryl, 23 grandchildren, and 29 great-grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Burnett leaves behind many who will cherish her memory and the wonderful times shared, including many other relatives and dear friends; and

WHEREAS, she gave inspiration to many through her high ideals, morals, and deep concern for her fellow citizens, and the devotion, patience, and understanding she demonstrated to her family and friends continue to be admired by others; and

WHEREAS, she was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness and, by the example she made of her life, she made this world a better place in which to live; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Burnett's love of family and friendship will never be forgotten, and this compassionate and generous mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and neighbor will be missed by all who had the great fortune of knowing her.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body join in honoring the life and memory of Mrs. Adelaide Burnett and express their deepest and most sincere regret at her passing.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Mrs. Adelaide Burnett.
