A RESOLUTION


Honoring the life and memory of W. Woodrow "Woody" Stewart; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens with the passing of W. Woodrow Stewart on January 9, 2012; and

WHEREAS, Woody served as a guardian of this nation's freedom and liberty as a first lieutenant with the United States Army, which honored him with the Commendation Medal for Meritorious Service in Okinawa, Japan; and

WHEREAS, a man of deep and abiding faith, Woody led the Deacon Board at First Baptist Church of Gainesville, Georgia, and later was a member of the Vestry at Grace Episcopal Church; and

WHEREAS, Woody was united in love and marriage to Lynda Truluck Stewart and was blessed with two remarkable children, Paige Stewart Green and Todd Woodrow Stewart, and two wonderful grandchildren, Will Green and Garrett Green; and

WHEREAS, he was known as a brilliant attorney and cornerstone of the law firm of Stewart Melvin and Frost, which his leadership helped grow into one of today's largest law firms in the region; and

WHEREAS, Woody helped launch the Medical Center's heart program, now recognized as the best in Georgia; and

WHEREAS, he was a man of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness, and, by the example he made of his life, he made this world a better place in which to live; and

WHEREAS, a compassionate and generous man, W. Woodrow Stewart will long be remembered for his love of family and friendship, and this loyal husband, father, grandfather, and friend will be missed by all who had the great fortune of knowing him.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body join in honoring the life and memory of W. Woodrow "Woody" Stewart and express their deepest and most sincere regret at his passing.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of W. Woodrow "Woody" Stewart.
