A RESOLUTION


Honoring the life and memory of Mrs. Vivian Hamp Griffin; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens with the passing of Mrs. Vivian Hamp Griffin on January 1, 2010; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Griffin was born on August 1, 1929, the beloved daughter of Mrs. Lena Pointer and the late Robert "Buck" Smith and stepdaughter of John Pointer; and

WHEREAS, educated in Newton County Public Schools, Mrs. Griffin had a successful career in personal domestic employment; and

WHEREAS, affectionately known as "Big Mama" throughout the Kirkwood community, she found joy in helping others and uplifting the lives of her friends and neighbors or those in need of food, shelter, or love; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Griffin gave inspiration to many through her high ideals, morals, and deep concern for her fellow citizens, and the devotion, patience, and understanding she demonstrated to her family and friends were admired by others; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Griffin was united in love and marriage to her soulmate, the late Mr. James Griffin, in 1949, and was blessed with four daughters, Syble, Sharon, Phyllis, and Terrie, eight grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, she was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness and, by the example she made of her life, she made this world a better place in which to live; and

WHEREAS, a generous and compassionate woman, Mrs. Griffin will long be remembered for her love of family and friendship, and this kind and loving mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, and friend will be sorely missed by all who had the great fortune of knowing her.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body join in honoring the life and memory of Mrs. Vivian Hamp Griffin and express their deepest and most sincere regret at her passing.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Mrs. Vivian Hamp Griffin.
