A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Kathleen P. Bennett deMarrais; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Kathleen P. Bennett deMarrais has held numerous academic positions at the University of Georgia, including Head of the Department of Social Science Education from 2001 to 2004; Interim Associate Dean for Students, Curriculum, and Accreditation from 2004 to 2005; Associate Dean for Academic Programs from 2005 to 2009; and Professor of Qualitative Research Program in the Department of Lifelong Education, Administration, and Policy since 1999; and

WHEREAS, she received a doctorate in Social Foundations of Education from the University of Cincinnati in 1986; and

WHEREAS, prior to her professorship at the University of Georgia, she taught at several universities, including Northern Arizona University, the University of Tennessee, and the University of Alaska; and

WHEREAS, she was awarded the University of Georgia Senior Teaching Fellow and the University of Georgia Teaching Academy in 2011, President of the American Educational Studies Association in 2004, and the department nominee for Northern Arizona University Teacher Scholar Award in 1999, among numerous other honors; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Bennett deMarrais is currently serving as a chair and member of the doctoral committee and served as a thesis committee member and qualitative research methodologist; and

WHEREAS, she has authored and co-authored several books, including Qualitative pedagogy, Qualitative research methods: Learning through experience, Foundation for research: Methods of inquiry in education and the social sciences, and Educating young adolescent girls; and
WHEREAS, her passion for uplifting the lives of others through education and her unique gift of writing and publishing academic articles, books, and journals is acknowledged by the State of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, in recognition of her contributions to the State of Georgia, it is abundantly fitting and proper for this body to honor the extraordinary commitment and accomplishments of this outstanding individual.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body heartily and gratefully commend Kathleen P. Bennett deMarrais for her over four decades of sacrifice, foresight, accomplishment, and contributions on behalf of education in Georgia and for the positive influence she has had upon the lives and futures of countless people in this state.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Kathleen P. Bennett deMarrais.
