A RESOLUTION

Amending the Rules of the House of Representatives so as to provide for the Pledge of Allegiance to the Georgia Flag; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the Pledge of Allegiance to the Georgia Flag was immediately adopted by the executive board of the Georgia branch of the Sons and Daughters of the Pilgrims on July 26, 1929; and

WHEREAS, in 1935, House Resolution 239 was presented to the Georgia General Assembly for official adoption; and

WHEREAS, House Resolution 239 was adopted by the House of Representatives on March 20, 1935, and by the Senate on March 21, 1935; and

WHEREAS, Governor Eugene Talmadge signed House Resolution 239 on March 28, 1935, designating the official Pledge of Allegiance to the Georgia Flag; and

WHEREAS, Code Section 50-3-3 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated says:
"The state flag shall be displayed on appropriate occasions in the public and private schools of this state and in all patriotic meetings, and the citizens of the state are requested to take the pledge of allegiance set out in Code Section 50-3-2"; and

WHEREAS, Code Section 50-3-2 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated says:
"The following is adopted as the pledge of allegiance to the state flag:

WHEREAS, it is only fitting to begin each legislative day by being reminded of the State Motto: Wisdom, Justice, and Moderation.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the Rules of the House of Representatives are amended by striking paragraph (3) of Rule 31 and inserting in its place the following:
