A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Reverend Sandra Robertson on the occasion of her retirement; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, a native of Chicago, Illinois, Reverend Sandra Robertson earned a bachelor's degree from Indiana University and a master of divinity degree from the Interdenominational Theological Center, where she received the Charles B. Copher and G. Murray Branch Award, the Faculty Honor Award, and the Dean's Honor Award; and

WHEREAS, since 1979, Reverend Robertson has served as executive director of the Georgia Citizens' Coalition on Hunger, a state-wide network of grassroots community groups committed to the elimination of hunger, homelessness, and poverty in Georgia; and

WHEREAS, through her work with the Georgia Citizens' Coalition on Hunger, Reverend Robertson founded the Umoja Farmers Market, Thrift Shop, and Organic Garden, a nonprofit business that trains low-income men and women on how to operate and manage a retail store; and

WHEREAS, Reverend Robertson serves as associate minister at Victory United Church of Christ and has served as associate minister at Cathedral of Divine Love United In Christ and community affairs ministry coordinator and associate minister of Christian education at Cathedral of Faith Church of God In Christ; and

WHEREAS, she has been honored and recognized with numerous awards, including the Outstanding Community Service Award from the Georgia Association of Black Elected Officials, Black Georgian of the Year in 1983 from the State Committee on the Life and History of Black Georgians, and one of Georgia's 50 Most Influential Black Women by the Georgia Inquirer; and

WHEREAS, she was united in love and marriage to Willis E. Robertson, Jr., in 1968, and they have been blessed with four remarkable children, Rachel, Jacob, Kis, and Tish, and four wonderful grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, a true community organizer and activist minister, Reverend Robertson has transformed oppressed and impoverished communities into environments that sustain and nurture families, create opportunities for prosperity, and prepare citizens for balanced lifestyles that promote harmonious living; and

WHEREAS, Reverend Robertson has served with honor and distinction with the Georgia Citizens' Coalition on Hunger, and her vision and unyielding commitment will be sorely missed upon the occasion of her retirement.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend Reverend Sandra Robertson for her efficient, effective, unselfish, and dedicated public service to the State of Georgia; congratulate her upon the grand occasion of her retirement; and extend to her their most sincere best wishes for continued health and happiness.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Reverend Sandra Robertson.
