RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Mary Cartmill; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Mary Cartmill has shown by the example of her academic accomplishments and
community service that the pursuit and attainment of excellence are within the
reach of the students in this state; and
WHEREAS,
a high school sophomore, Mary's superlative achievements in the classroom and
selfless extracurricular activities have earned her recognition with a Gold
Level Presidential Volunteer Service Award; and
WHEREAS,
Mary is a gifted student who maintains a 3.8 grade point average while
participating as an active member of the varsity cheerleading squad, FCA, FCCLA,
Key Club, Anchor Club, and student council; and
WHEREAS,
a compassionate, driven, and generous young woman, Mary started volunteering at
the age of 12 and is the founder of Mary's Heroes, a nonprofit organization that
benefits the American Cancer Society; and
WHEREAS,
Mary volunteers at the Tony Sorreno Centurian Bike Ride and has spoken with
young girls at Monroe Elementary School in connection with her Queens of
Character program conveying the importance of inner beauty and kindness;
and
WHEREAS,
her leadership and direction have been instrumental to programs such as Mary's
Heroes Ballroom Dancing, Mary's Heroes 5K Run/Walk, Miss Athens Relay for Life
Pageant, and Walton County Relay for Life Parade; and
WHEREAS,
Mary works with Faith In Serving Humanity (F.I.S.H.), helping prepare sack
lunches for over 2,000 children in the community during the summer, organizing
school supplies for the children of Walton County, and collecting donations of
Christmas gifts for local families; and
WHEREAS,
a young woman filled with faith, Mary is active with her church, First Baptist
Monroe, where she volunteers for vacation Bible school, helps with outdoor Bible
study and prayer walks, and has participated in mission trips to Chicago and
Calais, Maine; and
WHEREAS,
Mary collected over $5,000 in donated toys and books and distributed them to the
patients of Children's Hospital of Atlanta on Christmas day; and
WHEREAS,
Mary's selfless actions and generosity of spirit have brought great pride to her
family, her classmates, her friends, and her community; and
WHEREAS,
the State of Georgia looks with great anticipation toward the future of this
bright and promising young citizen.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body commend Mary Cartmill for her spectacular scholastic endeavors and
altruistic community service and express to her their most sincere best wishes
for continued success in the future.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mary
Cartmill.
