A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Ms. Dorestine "Ms. Dee" Samuel; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Ms. Dorestine "Ms. Dee" Samuel has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for the vital role that she has played in leadership and her deep personal commitment to the welfare of her neighbors; and

WHEREAS, a 53-year resident of Atlanta, Georgia, Ms. Samuel has devoted numerous hours of her time, talents, and energy to civic organizations and has held numerous leadership roles in community organizations; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Samuel's vision and commitment have been instrumental to the Mechanicsville Civic Association, where she has served as chair of public safety and currently serves as chaplain; and

WHEREAS, she serves as treasurer for Neighborhood Planning Unit-V, soliciting funds to carry on the work of the six communities the unit represents, Adair Park, Capitol Gateway, Mechanicsville, Peoplestown, Pittsburgh, and Summerhill; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Samuel is a past Peace Officer Standard Trainer for Georgia, serving as a Department of Transportation Enforcement Officer enforcing codes for roads and highways, transferring violators to prison, and impounding abandoned vehicles on expressways; and

WHEREAS, she currently serves as a security officer for the Atlanta Braves at Turner Field, helping to ensure baseball fans enjoy games in a safe atmosphere; and

WHEREAS, a woman with a dynamic personality, Ms. Samuel is known for her trustworthiness, integrity, intelligence, fairness, and her drive to always aid and support others; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Samuel and a neighbor at GE Tower and Lofts Apartments undertook the challenge to improve the Glenn Street Railroad Bridge by securing lights underneath the bridge, removing graffiti, cleaning up the surrounding areas, posting traffic signs, and cleaning up an adjacent empty lot; and

WHEREAS, she has been recognized with numerous honors and accolades, including a Pillar of Strength Award from the Atlanta Braves; and

WHEREAS, as a community activist and role model for people from all generations and walks of life, she brings honor to the City of Atlanta, the State of Georgia, and our country; and

WHEREAS, the passion and efforts of this unbelievably talented woman on behalf of her community are unparalleled, and it is fitting that this body express its appreciation to Ms. Samuel for the great credit she reflects on her community and this state.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend Ms. Dorestine "Ms. Dee" Samuel for her outstanding service to the City of Atlanta and extend to her sincere best wishes for the future.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Ms. Dorestine "Ms. Dee" Samuel.
