A
RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending the Georgia Southern University Center for Addiction and
Recovery; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
the Georgia Southern University Center for Addiction and Recovery (CAR) was
established to provide a comprehensive educational, social support, and recovery
service network for students in higher education who are recovering from
addictive disorders or who have grown up in families impacted by addiction;
and
WHEREAS,
the Georgia Southern University CAR provides a nurturing, affirming environment
in which students recovering from addictive disorders can successfully pursue
academic, personal, and professional goals for the purpose of enhancing their
quality of life and becoming productive members of society; and
WHEREAS,
this amazing program has experienced great growth and success under the guiding
hands of CAR Director Kristen Harper; and
WHEREAS,
CAR provides closed Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous meetings that
are geared towards the struggles and challenges faced by students in recovery;
and
WHEREAS,
the Georgia Southern University CAR is the only center in the United States with
a 100 percent retention rate, an average institutional grade point average of
3.7, and a zero percent relapse rate in its two years of operation;
and
WHEREAS,
the CAR program is having an amazing effect on individual lives, and it is
abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding work of this fine
organization be appropriately recognized.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body recognize the Georgia Southern University Center for Addiction and
Recovery for the amazing support it provides to collegiate students in recovery
and commend the program's efforts to uplift lives and enrich
communities.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Director
Kristen Harper of the Georgia Southern University Center for Addiction and
Recovery.
