A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Mr. Sam Olens; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Mr. Sam Olens has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for the vital role that he has played in leadership and his deep personal commitment to the welfare of the citizens of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Olens has diligently and conscientiously devoted innumerable hours of his time, talents, and energy toward the betterment of his community and state as evidenced dramatically by his superlative service as Chairman of the Cobb County Board of Commissioners and Chairman of the Atlanta Regional Commission; and

WHEREAS, he earned bachelor's and master's degrees from American University and a law degree from Emory University School of Law; and

WHEREAS, with 25 years of law practice experience, Mr. Olens has been a partner at Olens & Ezor, PC since 1983, is a registered mediator and arbitrator with the Georgia Office of Dispute Resolution, and is board certified in civil litigation by the National Board of Trial Advocacy and a Fellow of the Lawyer's Foundation of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Olens has been recognized with numerous honors and accolades, including the 2008 Tom Bradley Leadership Award from the National Association of Regional Councils, the 2007 Excellence in Public Service Award from the University of Georgia Carl Vinson Institute, the 2005 Liberty Bell Award from the Cobb County Bar Association, and Volunteer of the Year from the United Way of Cobb County; and

WHEREAS, named to the 100 Most Influential Georgians by Georgia Trend magazine for the last six years, Mr. Olens has been at the forefront of addressing Georgia's infrastructure, water, and traffic issues; and

WHEREAS, as Chairman of the Cobb County Board of Commissioners, Mr. Olens was responsible for effectively and efficiently running the government of Cobb County, its 5,000 employees, and maintaining a high standard of excellence in county government; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Olens served with honor and distinction with the Cobb County Board of Commissioners and the Atlanta Regional Commission, and his vision and unyielding commitment have set the standard for public service; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this remarkable and distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend Mr. Sam Olens for his efficient, effective, unselfish, and dedicated public service to Cobb County and the State of Georgia.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. Sam Olens.
