A RESOLUTION


Honoring the life and memory of Mr. Albert "Al" Milton Cook; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens with the passing of Mr. Albert "Al" Milton Cook on February 14, 2010; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Cook was born on January 29, 1933, in Louisville, Kentucky, and served as a guardian of this nation's freedom and liberty with the United States Army, valiantly and courageously serving during the Korean War; and

WHEREAS, he was inspired by the children he met while in Korea, returning home to volunteer with the Boy Scouts of America program and as a youth pastor in several churches; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Cook was a member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, served as an ROTC officer for four universities and 13 high schools, and was the Adjutant and Historian for the Savannah Chapter 596 and an Americanism Officer for the Department of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, he established a program in Port Wentworth, Georgia, that purchased Christmas gifts for the residents of Westview Nursing and Rehabilitation Home which has grown into an excellent opportunity to recognize the service of veterans throughout the year through special events; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Cook and his loving wife, Rose, worked diligently to have the City of Port Wentworth proclaimed one of this nation's three Purple Heart Cities in recognition of its outstanding patriotism; and

WHEREAS, he was a member of the Effingham County Veterans Park Committee, and he was the inspiration behind the Purple Heart Monument at the center of the park; and
WHEREAS, he gave inspiration to many through his high ideals, morals, and deep concern for his fellow citizens, and the devotion, patience, and understanding he demonstrated to his family and friends were admired by others; and

WHEREAS, he was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness and, by the example he made of his life, he made this world a better place in which to live; and

WHEREAS, a compassionate and generous man, Mr. Cook will long be remembered for his love of Port Wentworth, family, and friendship, and this loyal husband, father, and friend will be missed by all who had the great fortune of knowing him.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body join in honoring the life and memory of Mr. Albert "Al" Milton Cook and express their deepest and most sincere regret at his passing.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Mr. Albert "Al" Milton Cook.
