RESOLUTION
Commending
the Augusta State University men's golf team on winning the 2010 NCAA Division I
National Championship and inviting them to be recognized by the House of
Representatives; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
through perseverance and iron determination, the Augusta State University men's
golf team earned national acclaim by winning the 2010 NCAA Division I Men's Golf
Championship held at The Honors Course in Ooltewah, Tennessee; and
WHEREAS,
the Jaguars entered the national tournament ranked fifth in the nation and
proceeded to defeat the number three seed the Georgia Institute of Technology,
number two Florida State University, and the number one seed Oklahoma State;
and
WHEREAS,
this amazing accomplishment is the first national title in men's golf for
Augusta State University and brings great pride and joy to the school and
community; and
WHEREAS,
the phenomenal performance of the team is a clear indication of the outstanding
athletic ability, the dedication and hard work, and the unity of purpose and
spirit of each member of the team; and
WHEREAS,
the national championship team consisted of stellar athletes Jake Amos, Olle
Bengtsson, Jacob Carlsson, Taylor Floyd, Brendan Gillins, Mitch Krywulycz,
Carter Newman, Henrick Norlander, Patrick Reed, and Shawn Yim; and
WHEREAS,
the astute direction and confidence of Head Coach Josh Gregory led the team to a
successful and record-breaking season; and
WHEREAS,
in addition to their triumphs on the golf course, the team's grade point average
for the 2009-2010 academic year was 3.2; and
WHEREAS,
as this magnificent team earned its well-deserved reputation for excellence by
performing with courage and precision over months of training and competition,
it is abundantly proper to call them champions.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body congratulate the Augusta State University men's golf team for winning
the 2010 NCAA Division I National Championship and invite them to be recognized
by the House of Representatives at a date and time to be determined by the
Speaker of the House of Representatives.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Head Coach
Josh Gregory.
