A RESOLUTION


Commending the 2009-2010 University of Georgia majorette line and inviting them to be recognized by the House of Representatives; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the University of Georgia was the first state chartered university in the nation in 1785 and has the first majorette line in the nation that swept all categories at the Collegiate Nationals; and

WHEREAS, the line finished first in all categories of the Collegiate National Twirling Competition held at the University of Notre Dame during the summer of 2010; and

WHEREAS, the majorettes won the WOW award for the most entertaining majorette lines in the country and defeated all other competing colleges, which included Penn State University, Arizona State University, the University of Arizona, and the University of Florida; and

WHEREAS, the majorettes were led by coach Ashley Clark, a nationally respected and former National and World Champion; and

WHEREAS, the entire University of Georgia Redcoat Marching Band is second to none under the direction of Dr. Mike Robinson and Dr. John Lynch; and

WHEREAS, the line included stellar and dedicated performers Taylor Brown, Kelly Daniel, Angel Flournoy, KayLeigh Gaines, Leslie Koch, Miranda McGarity, Melody Meyer, Colleen Murphy, and Mary Katelyn Williams; and

WHEREAS, as this magnificent team earned its well-deserved reputation for excellence by performing with courage and precision over months of training and competition, it is abundantly proper to call them champions.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend the University of Georgia majorette line on their dominating performances at the Collegiate National Twirling Competition and invite them to be recognized by the House of Representatives at a date and time to be determined by the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the University of Georgia majorette line.
