A
RESOLUTION
Commending
William Glenn Hollingsworth, Franklin County High School's 2011 STAR Student,
and Ms. Shari Spokes, Franklin County High School's 2011 STAR Teacher; and for
other purposes.
WHEREAS,
a proper quality education for the young people of this state is the single most
important objective of the General Assembly; and
WHEREAS,
William Glenn Hollingsworth has shown by the example of his academic
accomplishments that the pursuit and attainment of scholastic success are within
the reach of the students in this state; and
WHEREAS,
this remarkable scholar has earned distinction through his superlative
achievements at Franklin County High School where he was a gifted student and
was selected as Franklin County High School's 2011 STAR Student;
and
WHEREAS,
to be selected as a STAR Student for a high school, a student must have obtained
the highest score in one administration of the new three-part Scholastic
Aptitude Test taken through the November test date of his or her senior year and
be in the top 10 percent or top ten students of his or her class;
and
WHEREAS,
each school has one STAR Student who in turn has the opportunity to choose a
STAR Teacher that has inspired and encouraged them throughout their high school
career; and
WHEREAS,
William chose Franklin County High School educator Ms. Shari Spokes as his STAR
teacher, who provided support and guidance throughout the years and encouraged
William to achieve his utmost potential; and
WHEREAS,
an honor graduate, William is a member of Beta Club and Future Business Leaders
of America and serves as a technology assistant for the science department;
and
WHEREAS,
William is the son of Murray and Billie Jean Hollingsworth and plans to attend
the Georgia Institute of Technology upon graduation, where he would like to
study computer science; and
WHEREAS,
a 34 year veteran educator, Ms. Spokes earned a bachelor's degree from Agnes
Scott College and a master's degree from Emory University and holds gifted
certification; and
WHEREAS,
Ms. Spokes is a member of Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society and has been named STAR
Teacher for Franklin County High School three times; and
WHEREAS,
the State of Georgia looks with great anticipation toward the future of William
Glenn Hollingsworth and Ms. Shari Spokes.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body heartily commend William Glenn Hollingsworth and Ms. Shari Spokes for
their selection as Franklin County High School's 2011 STAR Student and 2011 STAR
Teacher.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit appropriate copies of this resolution to William Glenn
Hollingsworth and Ms. Shari Spokes.
