A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending National Commander of the American Legion Jimmie L. Foster and inviting him to be recognized by the House of Representatives; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, National Commander Jimmie L. Foster of Anchorage, Alaska, was elected National Commander of the 2.5 million-member American Legion on September 2, 2010, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, during the 92nd national convention of the nation's largest veteran's organization; and

WHEREAS, National Commander Foster was born and raised in Oklahoma and graduated from Northeastern A&M College with a degree in agriculture education; and

WHEREAS, he served as a guardian of this nation's freedom and liberty with the United States Marine Corps from 1973 to 1976 and re-enlisted in the United States Army, ultimately retiring with 20 years of military service on August 1, 1994, as the Chief Legal Noncommissioned Officer at Fort Huachuca, Arizona; and

WHEREAS, National Commander Foster's 29 years of experience in the American Legion includes offices and appointments at all levels and he has served on many state-level committees including Americanism, the Citizens Flag Alliance, Economics, Veterans Employment, Internal Affairs, Legislative, Membership and Post Activities, Military Affairs, National Security, and Naval Affairs; and

WHEREAS, he served American Legion Spenard Post 28 as Adjutant for many years, as well as other offices, ultimately serving as Post Commander from 1989 to 1990; and

WHEREAS, a leader in his home state of Alaska, National Commander Foster served as State Commander of the Department of Alaska and during his term as Membership Chairman, the Department of Alaska finished number one in the nation for membership; and
WHEREAS, his leadership and guidance have been instrumental on the organization's Board of Directors as National Executive Committeeman for the Department of Alaska, as Chairman of the National Legislative Commission, and as a member of the National and Homeland Security Council and the Economics, Internal Affairs, and Legislative Commissions; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the extraordinary accomplishments of this distinguished American be appropriately recognized.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend and congratulate National Commander Jimmie L. Foster on a life of public service and invite him to be recognized by the House of Representatives at a date and time to be determined by the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to National Commander Jimmie L. Foster.
