RESOLUTION
Recognizing
March 11, 2011, as World Plumbing Day; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
World Plumbing Day was founded on March 11, 2010, as a way to highlight the
important role played by the plumbing industry and today's plumbing
professionals; and
WHEREAS,
many living in industrialized and developed countries take for granted the
ability to obtain clean water quickly and easily from a tap or faucet and do not
fully appreciate the convenience of having access to flushing toilets;
and
WHEREAS,
in developing countries, plumbing is either nonexistent or very basic and
results in the development of serious health issues; and
WHEREAS,
millions of people die each year due to lack of access to clean drinking water
and living in unsanitary conditions; and
WHEREAS,
according to the World Health Organization, 1.1 billion people around the globe
do not have access to safe water supplies, 2.6 billion do not have access to
healthy sanitation systems, and 3.1 million children die annually as a result of
water related diseases; and
WHEREAS,
on World Plumbing Day, industry representatives from across the globe bring
attention to the important role that plumbing professionals play in society;
and
WHEREAS,
events will be held around the globe on World Plumbing Day in locations such as
Australia, New Zealand, China, India, the United Kingdom, Scotland, and the
United States.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body recognize the importance of the plumbing industry and plumbing
professionals and acknowledge March 11, 2011, as World Plumbing
Day.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit appropriate copies of this resolution to members of the public and the press.
