A RESOLUTION


Congratulating the Buford High School football team on winning the 2010 GHSA Class AA State Championship; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Buford High School has a tradition of excellence and the highest ideals of academic achievement, training of mind and body, and sportsmanship; and

WHEREAS, through training, talent, and iron will, the Buford High School football team earned the top ranking in the state for the fourth straight time with their overtime win over Calhoun High School at the Georgia Dome; and

WHEREAS, the Wolves' championship win makes the Buford High School football program one of only two in Georgia's history to win four state championship titles in a row; and

WHEREAS, Buford has won seven state titles since 2001, eight during the history of the program, and 23 regional titles; and

WHEREAS, after a 45 yard field goal by Calhoun with ten seconds left in regulation play forced the title game into overtime, Dominique Swope scored a nine yard run in overtime to take the Wolves into the lead and Kurt Freitag made two big defensive plays to keep Calhoun scoreless in overtime and seal the victory; and

WHEREAS, the 2010 Wolves completed the season 14-1, were undefeated in Region 6-AA, and won 13 straight games; and

WHEREAS, the phenomenal performance of the team is a clear indication of the outstanding athletic ability, the dedication and hard work, and the unity of purpose and spirit of each member of the team; and

WHEREAS, students, players, coaches, parents, and supporters all came together to make a true championship team; and

WHEREAS, the 2010 Wolves exhibited a work ethic and level of confidence that transcends the football field; and

WHEREAS, the work, talent, and dedication of Head Coach Jess Simpson and his coaching staff are evident in the team's victorious season with each member displaying character, integrity, and perseverance to obtain this high achievement; and

WHEREAS, as this magnificent team earned its well-deserved reputation for excellence by performing with courage and precision over months of training and competition, it is abundantly proper to call them champions.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body congratulate the Buford High School football team for winning the 2010 GHSA Class AA State Championship, commend the players and coaches on their record-setting season, and extend their sincere best wishes for future success.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the head coach of the 2010 Buford High School football team, Jess Simpson.
