A
RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending the Spalding County 4-H program and its Project S.A.F.E.
participants; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
4-H programs are known for their contribution to community, development of
leadership skills, opportunity to make friends, and development of the ethic
that work can be fun, and the Spalding County 4-H program is a shining example
of 4-H excellence; and
WHEREAS,
the mission of the Spalding County 4-H program is to assist the youth of
Spalding County in acquiring knowledge, developing life skills, and forming
attitudes that will enable them to become productive members of society;
and
WHEREAS,
in 1990, Spalding County 4-H began a Shooting Sports program that taught shotgun
discipline and, over the years, expanded to other rifle and pistol disciplines
and provided education on competition safety rules and procedures for firearms
ranges; and
WHEREAS,
today, Spalding County 4-H offers a program called Project Shooting Awareness
Fundamentals and Education (S.A.F.E.), which provides participants education on
shooting sports safety, produces athletic activities related to shooting skills
and demonstration of proper techniques, and promotes good sportsmanship and
teamwork; and
WHEREAS,
Project S.A.F.E. serves over 90 young athletes, teaching shooting skills using
BB guns, air rifles, rimfire sporters, and smallbores; and
WHEREAS,
Project S.A.F.E. recently began using the Ole Mill Range Complex, a 52 position
and ten meter airgun range, as a competition and practice facility for young
athletes with collegiate, national, and Olympic competitive aspirations;
and
WHEREAS,
Spalding County 4-H Project S.A.F.E. members Matt Branyon, April Dunn, Adam
Thrasher, and Kyle Whisenant earned a Gold Medal at the NRA 2008 National
Precision Air Gun Competition, competing against teams from across the country;
and
WHEREAS,
these Gold medalists, along with Jacob Brown, Jake Neri, and Morgan Kelley,
earned the Bronze Medal at the 2008 Junior Olympic Three Position Air Rifle
National Championship; and
WHEREAS,
these young Georgians have brought pride and honor to their families, community,
and state, and their outstanding marksmanship and devotion to the principles of
4-H are worthy of recognition.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body recognize the Spalding County 4-H program, commend the members of
Project S.A.F.E. for their amazing accomplishments, and extend to them their
sincere best wishes for the future.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Spalding
County 4-H program.
