RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending the Macon-Bibb County Branch of the National Association for the
Advancement of Colored People; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) was
founded on February 12, 1909, and was originally known as the National Negro
Committee; and
WHEREAS,
several members of the Macon-Bibb County African American community expressed a
desire to establish a local branch of the NAACP to organize and unify the work
being done throughout the community by several civic leagues and social
organizations; and
WHEREAS,
consistently committed to the pursuit of justice and equality, the leadership
and members of the Macon-Bibb County Branch of the NAACP work with quiet
dedication to make Macon-Bibb County a better place to live in all respects; and
WHEREAS,
since its inception, the Macon-Bibb County Branch of the NAACP has been
intricately involved in the social, political, economic, and religious
development of Macon-Bibb County; and
WHEREAS,
throughout the years, the Macon-Bibb County Branch of the NAACP has been
superbly led by numerous talented presidents and officers, including Cartese
Dillard, John Thomas, Thelma Dillard, Albert Billingslea, Ronnie Miley, William
Randall, Florine L. Brown, Charlie Tatman, Ann Moore, Leroy Thomas, Dr. Jim
Marshall, Walter Davis, Lewis Winn, and Robert Sampson; and
WHEREAS,
it is fitting that this body express its appreciation for the great advancements
made by the Macon-Bibb County Branch of the National Association for the
Advancement of Colored People over the past three
decades.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body recognize the Macon-Bibb County Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People for the organization's significant role in leading social change in Macon-Bibb County and Georgia.

IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Macon-Bibb County
Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.
