A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Sheriff Al St. Lawrence; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Sheriff Al St. Lawrence has been a Georgia law enforcement officer since 1959 and is highly regarded by the citizens of his community and state and by local government officials as a person of unquestioned integrity and dedication to the sound principles of law enforcement; and

WHEREAS, this distinguished Georgian was named Chief of the Chatham County Police Department in 1971, a position he held until he was elected Sheriff in 1992; and

WHEREAS, Sheriff St. Lawrence was the only law enforcement official to be recognized as both Outstanding Chief by the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police in 1990 and Sheriff of the Year by the Georgia Sheriffs' Association in 1995; and

WHEREAS, serving as an aspirational example for all law enforcement officers, Sheriff St. Lawrence was awarded a life membership into the Peace Officers Association of Georgia in 1999; and

WHEREAS, Sheriff St. Lawrence has exhibited extraordinary devotion to duty, outstanding loyalty, fine leadership, and meticulous attention to detail in all his duties, and his efficient and effective commitment to excellence has been continually recognized by his peers; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the members of this body show their gratitude for the unique and often unheralded contributions of Sheriff St. Lawrence and all local law enforcement officers on behalf of the citizens of this state.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body unanimously commend the care, courage, sympathy, and selfless dedication exhibited by Sheriff Al St. Lawrence in carrying out the difficult duties of his vocation for so many years and extend to him their utmost appreciation for having so purely and truly defined for others the meaning of public servant.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Sheriff Al St. Lawrence.
