A
RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Mr. Lorenzo Wallace, Sr., on the occasion of his retirement as
Sergeant at Arms for the Georgia Senate; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Mr. Lorenzo Wallace, Sr., has long been recognized by the citizens of this state
for the vital role that he has played in leadership and his deep personal
commitment to the welfare of the citizens of Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Wallace was born on May 14, 1919, in Atlanta, Georgia, the beloved son of
the late Dr. and Mrs. Edward B. Wallace; and
WHEREAS,
a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School, Mr. Wallace earned a bachelor's
degree from Morehouse College; and
WHEREAS,
he served as a guardian of this nation's freedom and liberty with the United
States Marine Corps, valiantly and courageously protecting his fellow Americans
and the ideals of this country during World War II; and
WHEREAS,
he diligently and conscientiously devoted innumerable hours of his time,
talents, and energy toward the betterment of his community and state as
evidenced dramatically by his superlative service with the United States Postal
Service, working through the ranks to retire as Transportation Planning Officer
in 1974; and
WHEREAS,
a man of deep and abiding faith, Mr. Wallace is a lifelong member of Warren
Memorial United Methodist Church, where he serves as church historian;
and
WHEREAS,
for 18 legislative sessions, members of the Georgia Senate and its many visitors
had the privilege of Mr. Wallace's helpful and courteous service as Senate
Doorkeeper, and since 2007 he has held the prestigious position of Sergeant at
Arms for the Senate; and
WHEREAS,
he is a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for
integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Wallace is united in love and marriage to Mrs. Thelma P. Wallace, and they
have been blessed with two remarkable children, Nneka and Lorenzo, Jr., and
three delightful grandchildren; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Wallace has served with honor and distinction with the Georgia Senate, and
his vision and unyielding commitment will be sorely missed upon the occasion of
his retirement; and
WHEREAS,
it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this
remarkable and distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend
Mr. Lorenzo Wallace, Sr., for his efficient, effective, unselfish, and dedicated
public service to the State of Georgia and the Georgia Senate; congratulate him
upon the grand occasion of his retirement; and extend to him their most sincere
best wishes for continued health and happiness.

IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. Lorenzo Wallace, Sr.
