A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending the Lithonia Senior Center on the occasion of its 36th anniversary; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the Lithonia Senior Center was established in April, 1974, as a nutrition site for persons 60 years of age or older under the direction of the DeKalb Community Council on Aging; and

WHEREAS, the center hired Mrs. Annie Woodall as site manager in 1974, and under her leadership the center's enrollment increased to 75 participants; and

WHEREAS, under Mrs. Woodall's leadership and guidance, the Lithonia Senior Center leased the Bruce Street Library which was used as a multipurpose room, and the programs and activities at the center expanded and flourished; and

WHEREAS, upon Mrs. Woodall's retirement in 2005, Ms. Patricia Jackson was appointed center manager and the site council was created to assist her with developing activities of interest for seniors; and

WHEREAS, over the last 36 years, the Lithonia Senior Center has grown and prospered, accomplishing numerous achievements, including the creation of a membership manual and brochure, the purchase of a kiln for ceramic classes, and the adoption of Beverly's Angels Learning Center; and

WHEREAS, the outstanding contributions and achievements of the Lithonia Senior Center are worthy of recognition.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend the Lithonia Senior Center on 36 years of dedicated services to the seniors of Lithonia and DeKalb County and extend best wishes for many more years of success.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Lithonia Senior Center.
