A RESOLUTION

Recognizing the week of October 17, 2011, as Careers in Energy Week; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, energy serves as the bedrock of our way of life, showing up at the flip of a switch or the turn of a dial to do work for the people of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, even though it is often overlooked, energy's invisible matrix of power flows throughout all modern human endeavors, making the conveniences of everyday life possible; and

WHEREAS, energy generates commerce and fuels economic growth, supplying the simple comforts of life to necessities on which lives depend; and

WHEREAS, energy provides careers for tens of thousands of Georgians, ranging from line worker to engineer, construction specialist to accountant, chemist to environmentalist, and maintenance laborer to executive; and

WHEREAS, to preserve continuity and meet the new challenges of a growing economy, new workers are needed to provide a bridge into the future by replacing retiring workers and maintaining a skilled and engineering workforce; and

WHEREAS, through strategic partnerships, the Georgia Energy and Industrial Construction Consortium strives to promote a unified and results-oriented effort to ensure people find new and rewarding careers in energy.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body recognize the importance of promoting careers in the field of energy and recognize the week of October 17, 2011, as Careers in Energy Week.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Georgia Energy and Industrial Construction Consortium.
