A
RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Greater Antioch Missionary Baptist Church on the occasion of its
142nd anniversary; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
in March, 2011, Greater Antioch Missionary Baptist Church celebrates its 142nd
year of faithful worship since the church was first organized; and
WHEREAS,
since its founding, Greater Antioch Missionary Baptist Church has known some of
the Lord's finest servants, beginning with the leadership of Pastor Albert
Campbell, Pastor Frank Deloney, and Pastor E.W. Hoyt; and
WHEREAS,
shortly after Pastor Hoyt answered his summons for eternal rest on August 1,
1956, the church building was unfortunately destroyed by fire, but the
congregation persevered through the grace of God and the wonderful hospitality
of Mount Calvary Baptist Church; and
WHEREAS,
the church was rebuilt in 1958 under the leadership of Pastor W.M. Hall, and the
church experienced a time of great revival that continued through the watchful
stewardship of Pastor Nehemiah Collins, Sr.; and
WHEREAS,
under the leadership of a former pastor, the church has been blessed with a
number of new additions, including the purchase of a 32-passenger bus, a new
audio sound system, and a lighted display for the church's exterior;
and
WHEREAS,
over the span of its many years, this congregation has experienced occasions for
both jubilation and sorrow, but their church has remained a symbol of the spirit
and lifeblood of the community during three different centuries of Georgia
history.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body recognize
the rich history of Greater Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, congratulate it
on the occasion of its 142nd anniversary, and extend their warmest best wishes
for its continued growth and success.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Greater Antioch Missionary
Baptist Church.
