RESOLUTION
Commending
Suzanne Sitherwood upon being recognized by the Women's Legislative Caucus; and
for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
March is Women's History Month, and the Women's Legislative Caucus, chaired by
Representative Cecily Hill, Representative Pat Gardner, and Senator Valencia
Seay, endeavors to recognize women in Georgia who have achieved top positions in
their fields as a salute to all women leaders in business; and
WHEREAS,
in 2009, one of the women being recognized by the Women's Legislative Caucus is
Suzanne Sitherwood, president of Atlanta Gas Light; and
WHEREAS,
a graduate of Southern College of Technology with a bachelor's degree in
industrial engineering technology, Ms. Sitherwood also holds a master's degree
in business administration from Brenau University; and
WHEREAS,
prior to this role, Ms. Sitherwood served as vice president of gas operations
and capacity planning, a position she held since June, 2002, where she directed
the natural gas distribution infrastructure, gas control, gas measurement,
marketer relations, customer related services, interstate pipeline
relationships, asset management, and management of storage facilities;
and
WHEREAS,
she joined Atlanta Gas Light over 25 years ago as a co-op student in the
cathodic protection group. She has held a variety of positions including vice
president of engineering, environmental, and construction, chief engineer,
director of competition planning, director of rates and regulatory affairs, and
director of residential markets; and
WHEREAS,
Ms. Sitherwood currently serves on the Governor's Energy Policy Council and the
Metropolitan North Georgia Water Planning District Governing Board; is 2010
chair-elect, an officer, and board member of the Georgia Chamber of Commerce; is
past chair of Environment & Energy Committee and general co-chair of the GA
Initiative; is a member of the board of Children’s Health Care of Atlanta,
Atlanta New Century School Advisory Board, and The Carter Center Board of
Councilors; was recently appointed to the new Atlanta Dream Advisory Board; is a
member of the Alexis de Tocqueville Society of United Way; and has served on the
boards of the American Cancer Society, Clean Air Campaign, Emory Hospital
Visiting Committee, Atlanta Woman Advisory Board, Livable Communities Coalition,
Neighborhood Development Partnership, Inc., Governor's Task Force on
Transportation, and AID Atlanta and was chairperson for the Loop Committee,
where she dedicates time to education about HIV and other related issues;
and
WHEREAS,
she believes strongly in giving back to the community and is involved in many
volunteer activities, including theAIDS Walk, Habitat for Humanity, March of
Dimes, Relay for Life, United Way, and other organizations and causes;
and
WHEREAS,
she lives in Buckhead with her husband.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join to
commend Suzanne Sitherwood upon being recognized by the Women's Legislative
Caucus and to extend their sincere best wishes for success in all of her future
endeavors.

IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Suzanne Sitherwood.
